This job was for a lady that had called someone in the papers to seal her bath and charged her £35 for this, if he had known his job he would have investigated why the bath had sunk so far, which I did and found that her bath had sunk and detached from the wall, the bath being a corner bath style, i took the bath panel off and found that the floor and wooden wall panels had rotted, I called in a wood specialist to make sure that it was only wet rot, this was his findings.
After removing the bath this is what I found, the floor boards rotten and the wall panels, I removed the rotten floor boards and panels, under the floor I found that the floor joist had also been affected and had to be replaced.
I cut the rotten wood out and treated the new wood with cuprynol complete wood treatment; the joist was treated with this as well.
After I waited for the wood to dry I fitted the new joist and floorboards and panels and covered the panels with ply board.
When I reinstalled the bath i discovered that the tiles on the wall were not lining up, I showed the customer my findings, I asked for her permission to take the tiles off so she could get new ones and I would tile around the bath for a water tight finish and a new seal.
The job was completed in a day and a half, the customer was over the moon she said that her bath looked just like new, the lesson here is watch the PAPER COWBOYS.
